TikTok ends the year with their list of Top 10s in different categories

For those who are not aware, the TikTok app is deemed as the ultimate lip-syncing platform where users can make 15-second videos in various categories. And in just two years of its launch - the app has become so popular that it has reached 1.5 billion total downloads and boasts over 500 million monthly active users worldwide – falling in line with big names like YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram.

Interestingly, it is not only the everyday social media users who are obsessed with the app. Renowned brands like Chipotle and Uniqlo are also making use of its innovative features to market their products and services.

It is also popular with Hollywood stars like Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith, YouTube creators David Dobrik and James Charles, and organizations like the NBA, the NFL, and the Washington Post.

However, the parent company of TikTok – Bytedance did face some hurdles in the start of 2019 when it faced a $5.7 million fine by the Federal Trade Commission for collecting personal data from users under the age of 13.

TikTok’s merger with Musical.ly – an American app with the same features also created a controversy regarding censorship. The company also faced backlash just last week for banning an American teen who protested Chinese ‘reeducation camps’ for Muslims in its videos.

It is also expected that the head of TikTok will meet the U.S. lawmakers soon to clear all allegations of his ties with the Chinese government and political censorship on the app.

Nevertheless, the TikTok app has had an eventful 2019 – and shows no sign of slowing down in 2020. To mark the end of their successful year, the company has released its first top 100 list, where they recognized the top videos, creators, memes, and songs of the year.
