Facebook Rolls Out New Log In Screen for Emerging Markets

You have probably been using the internet for years and years, and so you wouldn’t realize that there are a lot of people out there that have not been privileged enough to be able to use the internet in this manner. This has a lot to do with the fact that there are certain emerging markets out there where the internet is just being introduced, and it’s fair to say that the way that people end up accessing the internet in these markets is a little different from what you might be used to.

Facebook is aware of that, which is why the social media platform is rolling out new login and account recovery screens. The purpose of these new login mechanisms is to store account details on the device that you are using, so if you don’t know your login details you can simply access this information on your device and subsequently gain access to your Facebook account. In a lot of situations, someone that has just made an account would have had someone else set their password for them, and in these developing markets people often swap SIM cards as well which makes traditional two factor authentication difficult to implement.

These new login screens which are being rolled out for emerging markets in Latin America, Asia and Africa where they are going to have quite an impact. It’s important for a big company like Facebook to keep in mind the various intricacies that come with expanding as much as they have, and a big part of this has a lot to do with trying to see how people use the internet in other parts of the world and how this can factor into the company’s attempts to make social media access easier for people in these countries all in all.
