70% of US Shoppers Want Free Shipping According to This Study

Ecommerce has been the name of the game for quite some time now, but with so many different corporations and small businesses entering the fray, options are limited when it comes to distinguishing themselves from competitors with all things having been considered and taken into account. In spite of the fact that this is the case, businesses can still look into optimizing shipping options by making sure that they fall in line with customer expectations.

Statista just put out a new report that includes survey results from US based consumers, and with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that 69.2% of consumers want free shipping. Offering free shipping can help businesses grow because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up catering to needs that customers openly admit that they have.

However, free shipping is not the be all end all of the ecommerce landscape. Fast shipping is also a priority, with 57% of customers saying that it mattered to them. A similar number, 56.1% to be precise, stated that they want to be able to track their deliveries while they are en route. That would allow them to know precisely when the package will arrive, and if it is delayed they can be notified in advance instead of on the day.

Another aspect of shipping that customers crave is the ability to return items for free. 51.3% of consumers based in the US who responded to this survey said that they want this type of service, and businesses that offer this could get a leg up over competitors.

Interestingly, not all that many customers prioritized sustainable shipping packages or recyclable packaging. That doesn’t seem to be a top concern for customers as of right now, so businesses that want to focus mostly on growth don’t have to worry about it. It will become a greater concern later on, but for now consumers want convenience above all else, so fast and free shipping options with tracking and easy returns are the way to go.
