Security Researchers Reveal the Most Dangerous Google Voice Authentication Scams

Quite a few scams have come about thanks to the rise of technology, and a significant number of these scams have something or the other to do with Google Voice authentication. The The Federal Bureau of Investigation has given out a warning to various Americans that tend to put their number up online since they are being targeted by a wide range of Google Voice oriented scams that appear to be getting increasingly more prevalent these days.

The way that this works is that a malicious actor would take various information that you will have freely posted online and use Google Voice authentication to create fake accounts used to sell various things or commit a wide range of other scams. The truly concerning thing about this is that since the account is in a specific user’s name and with their details, they might be the ones that are implicated because of these scams and malicious acts.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that these scammers are using your phone numbers to verify themselves as real sellers. They will approach someone or the other claiming to be selling something, and when asked to show their legitimacy they will use stolen phone numbers to create authenticated Google Voice accounts which would often successfully trick buyers into thinking that they are talking to a real person that actually has something worth selling.

It is absolutely essential for people to be really careful about posting personal details and information about themselves online. Scams like this are a strong indication that any and all information or data that you share could very well be used to scam someone else. Contacting Google and having your account restored can be a great way to regain control of your profile and prevent it from being used in this manner for the most part.
