App Cloning Might Become Possible in Future Android Iterations

Android has been getting a few exciting features lately, and one of the most exciting that we have managed to notice is a feature that would make it so that you can clone on app on your phone. What this basically means is that you can have two versions of the same app running side by side. It can be useful because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing you to have two separate accounts running on the same app, something that can be useful if you use an app that doesn’t easily let you cycle between two accounts with WhatsApp being a particularly pertinent example of this.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this upcoming feature in Android 12 is one that OEMs have been offering for quite some time now, and Google is probably adding it to its operating system in order to remain competitive. Another thing to note is that this feature is not going to work the way you might expect with all things having been considered and taken into account.

For one thing, the feature is quite buggy and updates can be a bit of an issue. Only one version of the app might end up getting updated, and which version receives an update seems quite random. What’s more is that the app launcher is going to see one of the apps as belonging to your work profile, and you can find a lot of other ways in which you can use this as well all of which are exceedingly important. Still, it is a step in the right direction for Google since many Android users want to be able to use a feature like this and this will help them.
