WhatsApp is all set to bring in its password-protected Backup feature to its users

The famous messaging platform that is currently owned by Facebook, WhatsApp is currently working to introduce a new feature named as End to End Encrypted Backup. The messaging application has already submitted an updated version via the Google Play Beta Program so it can bring up the new version.

WhatsApp Introduced a newly redesigned chat bar and enabled the playback speed in the previous WhatsApp beta updates released for Android devices and now its developers are working to introduce an end to end backup with encrypted services as spotted by WABetaInfo.

According to WABI, this new end to end encrypted backup service will make the user’s backup more safe when it will be hosted on Google Drive. If a user wants to restore their WhatsApp they will be required to enter the security passcode before decrypting it. And since the backup will be end to end encrypted no-one will be able to see the content it will hold and in response it will be protected from unauthorized access.

The current Status for the feature is under development but the WABetaInfo site did show some preview images to give an overview. According to it, if the user decides to enable the end to end encrypted backup service he will be needed to add a minimum 8 characters long passcode for configuration. When this encryption feature will be enabled , the user will get a possibility offered by WhatsApp to change the password or to disable the encryption service. This password will be kept private and will not be shared with WhatsApp and not even with the parent company which is Facebook. After the feature will be made available, the user will not be able to restore the backup incase if they lose the passcode. However, it is possible that WhatsApp might work on a recovery passcode option through which the user can restore their backup again even after losing their passcode.

Since the feature is currently under development and will be available for test run before it is made available for everyone, it is ahead of time to think about the possible features it will come with. So it is better to wait for the upcoming version of WhatsApp and to stay tuned in order to unveil some new announcements and features from the same platform.
