Instagram App Will Probably No Longer Offer Messaging Insights Due to Europe’s New Privacy Rules

Europe has been waging a war against the world of tech, and that hasn’t always been a bad thing. The tech industry does need to kept in check because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up compromising the kind of privacy that people might just want to take advantage of. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that too much regulation can be a bad thing since it can hurt companies and prevent them from growing in a way that is necessary in order to remain viable.

Recent privacy rule changes that have been implemented in Europe are meant to prevent social media platforms from being able to spy on users and the various messages that they may be sending. While this does sound good on paper, in the real world it has the potential to cause a lot of problems, and various social media platforms such as Facebook have warned that such strict rules might make it difficult for them to do business and they might have to remove certain features from the European market.

We are already seeing an example of this with Instagram, as spotted by Alessandro Paluzzi. The Facebook subsidiary will no longer offer users in Europe the chance to get message insights due to restrictions caused by privacy rules. This might be Instagram firing back at the European government and showing them what they could lose if they continue down this path, or it might just be an inevitable consequence of the rules that are being changed at this current point in time. Whatever the case may be, the losers end up being the users of such platforms as they are cut off from features that the rest of the world can easily access.
