WhatsApp Testing Self Deleting Messages

There have been two distinct aspects to the recent updates WhatsApp has been receiving. On one hand, Facebook has been trying to make WhatsApp seem more like a Facebook property. On the other hand, WhatsApp’s updates have involved adding new features that would incorporate a lot of Snapchat like elements into the mix in order to further undermine that particular social media platform’s hold over the younger demographics that Facebook has recently been trying very hard indeed to tackle as quickly as possible.

According to WAbetainfo, the latest update that is coming to WhatsApp has something to do with both of these trends. This update will bring a new feature into the mix, namely self destructing messages. We have seen this feature be added to Facebook Messenger before, although you had to open a special chat that would allow you to take advantage of this feature. With WhatsApp it seems like you will be able to adjust your settings for the general chat, as well as groups .

Basically you will be able to go into your settings and select a specific option regarding self deleting messages. You will be able to make the messages get deleted in an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year. This is the kind of feature that used to make Snapchat so unique, and the fact that WhatsApp now has it means that it did contribute to the popularity of that platform.

While a lot of users are not going to find much use for this new feature, it should be noted that this is actually going to be extremely useful for several people that might want their messages to get deleted automatically after a set period of time has expired. Whatever the case may be, this is an exciting new feature to come to WhatsApp and is a sign of what might be coming next.
