Instagram Users Want Authentic Influencers: Study

Being an influencer on social media, especially on Instagram, can be a pretty big earner for a lot of people, and this is a big part of the reason why so many people are trying to break into this industry thinking that this is pretty much the only way for them to be able to make the most of the kind of money that they may be trying to earn at any given point in time.

However, a recent research from GlobalWebIndex has indicated that influencers that are disingenuous and not authentic are probably not going to find a lot of success on social media. When asked what qualities they would want to see in an influencer that they are following, people on Instagram stated that above all else they want their influencers to be trustworthy. This means that having fake followers is probably going to make it difficult for a creator to get ahead, especially when you consider the fact that such things often end up being revealed to users who are going to be understandably upset about the fact that influencers are trying to trick them.

Being informative is also important for influencers according to this survey, but at the same time you need to be funny and entertaining. Hence, you can’t just drop information onto your users, you need to present this information in a manner that is at least a little bit entertaining, although since users preferred informative influencers it’s pretty clear that information matters more.

Another factor that is going to impact the success of an influencer is how relatable they are, though this is more or less obvious. About one third of respondents also said that they appreciate influencers that only talk about topics that they are familiar with rather than talking about everything that is trending in the hopes of getting a larger audience.
