Google rethinks: May make changes to its political ads policy

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Google is considering making changes to its political ads policy. Although the company has not yet revealed much information regarding the changes – it is expected that the company will make an official announcement this week.

The news regarding Google came just as the debate over social media and their influence on the 2020 US presidential election were heating up.

In their response, the social media giants are tackling the issue in different ways.

For example, Twitter  recently announced that it would not sell ad space for election campaigns.

The move by Twitter put a lot of pressure on Facebook, which has been under scrutiny since some time for spreading false information through political ads. The social media giant was caught when Russian actors purchased Facebook ads to spread misinformation among Americans.

Ahead of the 2020 election, several other social media companies like TikTok has also put a pan on political ads.

When contacted, Google was not available for comment.
