TikTok Releases Safety Videos Focusing on Features and Positivity

Social media can be both a great thing as well as a terrible thing, and at the end of the day it all really depends on the manner in which you use it. Some people tend to use it to educate themselves, others have a tendency to use it for entertainment and others still might vent their frustrations out onto strangers and this might just make social media kind of a toxic place.

TikTok is well aware of the fact that online bullying, harassment as well as a variety of other things are serious issues for its users. This is why the social media and video sharing platform has created a series of videos that are focused on teaching users about the various safety features it offers in a manner that is playful whilst also giving the requisite information so that users would retain it more or less fully.

Some of the features that TikTok is going to be talking about include features that would allow users to moderate the comments that they receive, block users, as well as a wide variety of others. This is particularly important because incidents of harassment are not new to this platform, and its users that create content purely for entertainment purposes often think about the manner in which this harassment could affect them.

While the main purpose of these videos is quite good when you consider how it will affect user safety, the fact of the matter is that some people are criticizing these videos for misrepresenting, among other things, TikTok’s censorship policies. These censorship policies have been used to prevent videos of Hong Jong protests from spreading, and this is just one example of the many ways in which TikTok may be trying to suppress freedom of speech. Hence, some would recommend taking these safety and positivity videos with a grain of salt.
