Did Twitter just ‘unfollow’ its own CEO?

Twitteratis were taken by surprise when they noticed the company’s official account ‘unfollow’ its founder and CEO Jack Dorsey. In fact, many users assumed the micro-blogging site to have a spat with Dorsey who would soon announce to resign from his official post.

However, this is not the case.

And no, Twitter’s account is not hacked either.

Apparently, Twitter unfollowed all but 27 accounts as part of an advertising campaign.

According to news report, the official @Twitter is now following only 27 users with only one being a verified account. The company selected these users through a random process and is planning to have their tweets printed and posted on subway stations of New York City and San Francisco.

31 tweets from the 27 users will be displayed on consecutive billboards. The date for the ‘tweet’ reveal is from July 30 to August 9.

The ecstatic users took to Twitter (where else) and shared their newfound ‘stardom’ through various tweets.

Seems like Twitter is going all out to make the users content with their platform while aiming to garner new ones as well.

What do you think about the advertising gimmick? Are you one of the selected lucky ones? Or do you know someone who was amongst the top 26? Let us know in the comments section!
