Instagram Redesign its Explore Page, Making IGTV and Shopping More Prominent

Instagram is once again changing the design of its Explore page. Redesign of Explore page, where recommended content from the unfollowed account is shown, has been revealed by the app.
"People turn to Explore when they want to branch out from the accounts they already follow on Instagram. Today we’re announcing new designs in Explore, bringing you more ways to discover photos, videos, products and Stories relevant to your interests.", announced Instagram in a press release
Will Ruben, product lead for discovery at Instagram said that the changes in Explore indicate the possible change of strategy of the app in the future. This means that the two new features of Instagram, IGTV, and shopping, will take up a more prominent place.

After trying hard to promote IGTV, Instagram’s new navigation bar place it at the top.

Shop, another feature means several shopping channels will now be seen on Instagram. By going to the shopping section of the app, users will be able to surf through a number of brand and categories to choose from and buy within the app through the new checkout feature.
"Explore is used by more than 50% of accounts on Instagram every month." 
Stories in Explore will now appear in grid format but the main focus of the app is on IGTV and shopping feature. It has been trying to figure out better ways to monetize Stories. Following this, Instagram apparently sees more potential in IGTV and Shopping feature for monetizing opportunities.

As IGTV does not support ads yet, neither brands can pay for shoppable posts in Explore, the app can have utilized this to generate more revenue. The longer the videos on IGTV, the more ads can be displayed in it.

In the last earning call of the company, Mark Zuckerberg said that advertising is going to be the main source of revenue generation in the future. He said that with the building of commerce platforms like shopping on Instagram or Facebook Marketplace on a private social platform will lead to private interactions related to payments and commerce.

However, the most important step right now is to make people blow the “shop now” button on the apps.
