Canva Took Over Pexels and Pixabay to provide more Free Graphics to Users

Design and publishing platform, Canva has taken Pexels and Pixabay – free stock image providers, on board. With this, a new subscription service, Photos Unlimited, has been introduced for its premium stock images.

Canva has acquired both at a time to improve its design toolkit by introducing more graphics options.

Melanie Perkins, Chief Executive of Canva said that from Pexels and Pixabay combined, 500 million times around 1 million images are downloaded. This shows that social media marketers, small business owners along with designers and large setups are always looking for free yet quality content.

However, she did not clarify how much the company spent to take both stock image repositories. Now Canva users will be able to use images from both the services for free. They will have access to photographs also, without any charges.

Pexels co-founder, Ingo Joseph said that Canva believes in empowering the designing sector and have proved it by providing free stock content to its users. He also stated that they are working to provide outstanding content, which is trending instead of old cliché stock images.
"Pexels has always sought to empower creatives to take their work to the next level using the best free photography in the world. Canva’s motto is similar: they aim to make design and publishing more accessible to everyone, everywhere." Announced Pexels team in a blog post on Medium. Adding further, "We are thrilled to be working alongside a company whose mission and ethos is so similar to ours."
Other than these free services, Photos Unlimited – a premium service by Canva, will be rolled out. It will cost $12.95 monthly or $120 per year to get access to the premium stock images of the company. In addition to this, $1 will be charged for every image and its use or users can use images forever by paying $20.

The Australian-based company was launched in 2013 and since then almost 1 billion designs have been created so far and has 15 million active users on a monthly basis.
