X Experienced a Collapse in UK Revenues and Profits After Elon Musk’s Takeover

X has recently admitted, with stats, how the company’s UK revenues and profits went downhill after Elon Musk chose to take over the company.

The incident raised serious concerns linked to brand safety as well as content moderation, with Musk in charge. Both of these factors were called out as the main reason behind the collapse. The news comes after the app’s accounts were filed at the Companies House this week.

Meanwhile, Twitter UK Ltd was able to narrowly escape getting removed after it almost failed to meet the deadline for filing accounts. At the time, it only published the accounts for 2023 but was asked to reconsider.

Today, X is working hard to regain its lead in the market, as the business takes better measures to help with brand safety tools. It’s also investing more in safety features and better steps to moderate content. Similarly, it’s taking out time to raise awareness on such matters so that advertisers are also in the loop of how it’s bettering its reputation, which was not too great at the start of the transition.

The overall revenue hit 69 million Euros, which is much lower than the 205 million Euros seen in 2022. The mega 66% decline showed how poorly the company was doing in general at the time. The takeover bid also meant Musk had to cut costs, and he chose to do that with his firing spree. Today, only 1500 of the original 8000 workforce are working at the firm.

In the United Kingdom alone, the figures fell from 399 to 114. The cut includes a mega 173 employees from the department of research and development. Despite all those struggles, the company’s value really soared back to new highs in 2025.

We saw Musk boast more about $44 billion, and in the previous month, his xAI took charge of the entire company for $33 billion. But not too many experts are too surprised at the stats on display.

There were plenty of indicators that hinted at how X would go through a period of recession and then come back stronger than before. It’s now getting a great chance to recover losses from ad revenue. It can only happen in the UK and the EU region if Musk acts the right way. This includes showing support for advertisers and establishing safeguards for companies’ safety.

Musk first established the company in the United Kingdom towards the end of 2024 as speculations grew about plans to roll out large donations to a leading UK party of Nigel Farage. The firm referred to itself as X.AI London and came into play on December 12. It was seen as engaging in operations linked to software and business development, and now currently stands at the same locations as the X London offices.
