Gen Z Users Dominate TikTok and Snapchat, Avoid Facebook

Certain platforms appeal to the crucial Gen Z demographic more than others, and it turns out that Snapchat is the most popular platform in that regard. This data comes from a new report published by Insider Intelligence, and it suggests that Gen Z tend to prefer Snapchat more than might have been the case otherwise.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that 51.1% of US users that are on Snapchat come from Gen Z. 34.3% are Millennials, 9.6% are Gen X, and unsurprisingly, just 3% are Baby Boomers. However, Snapchat is not the only platform is catering to Gen Z, since TikTok has also managed to make a tremendous amount of headway in this regard.

The rapidly rising social media platform receives 44.7% of its user base from Gen Z. As for Millennials, they represent a 33.7% share, which is nearly the same as Snapchat, but TikTok caters a lot more to Gen X and Baby Boomers with 11.8% and 6.3% respectively.

X, formerly known as Twitter, is the third most popular platform for Gen Z in terms of proportional user base. 32.6% of its users hail from the youngest demographic, with 32.7% comprised of Millennials with all things having been considered and taken into account.

The platform that receives its highest share of users from Millennials is Reddit, with 43.7%. It struggles a fair bit with Gen Z, with just 28.2%, but it far outstrips older platforms such as Facebook, since the Meta owned platform only gets 17.4% of its user share from the youngest demographic.

This just goes to show how Facebook has fallen out of favor with Gen Z, although its subsidiary Instagram does a lot better with 33.7%. Facebook is actually starting to become the favored platform for Baby Boomers with 25.2%. However, that’s likely not going to be something that the platform would want because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up alienating more valuable demographics.

As for streaming services, Disney Plus appears to be more popular among Gen Z than Netflix. Out of the total user base for the Disney owned streaming service, 29.5% are Gen Z, while the number is 25.5% for Netflix.
