Is Elon Musk Putting Twitter Analytics Behind a Paywall?

Ever since Elon Musk took control of Twitter, many of the features that people had gotten used to have become harder to access than might have been the case otherwise. Musk has been adamant about squeezing every single penny he can out of Twitter because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making up for the tremendous loss he incurred acquiring it. Some are suggesting that Twitter analytics could be the latest feature put behind a paywall.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the true Twitter analytics has been inaccessible for quite some time now. There is absolutely no data available for the month of September as well as a significant chunk of August, which might mean that Musk is planning to charge for the service in the near future.

Twitter analytics has been a core component of the social media platform for years by this point. Users can check their analytics to gain a broad overview of how much reach their tweets are getting with all things having been considered and taken into account. Now that the platform has been rebranded as X, with tweets now being referred to as posts, it appears that free analytics are becoming a thing of the past as well.

The official explanation for this is that the site is trying to rework analytics for the purposes of making them more accurate. In spite of the fact that this is the case, it seems unlikely that Musk won’t try to start charging users for something that they used to be able to enjoy free of charge.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact this has on X moving forward. Many of these features were free because they increased engagement, and with X’s ad revenues plummeting in recent months, Musk might have made the wrong move yet again. Whether or not analytics are put behind a paywall is inconclusive, but given Musk’s track record it doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch.
