iPhone 14 Pro Clinches Top Spot in 5G Speed Rankings

There have been a lot of bold claims that Apple’s latest offerings provide the highest possible internet speeds on 5G networks, and a new report from Ookla managed to confirm that with all things having been considered and taken into account. The study that Ookla conducted factored in data that was collected over the third quarter of 2022, and it revealed some important insights about which smartphone can provide the fastest 5G speeds.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro ended up at the top of these rankings with a maximum download speed of around 177 Mbps. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the second spot also went to an Apple phone, namely the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This phone’s top speed clocked in at around 175 Mbps which is just shy of the numbers that were obtained by its slightly smaller counterpart.

No other phone was able to come close to being competitive with these two. The three other phones in the top 5 rankings all came from Samsung, but in spite of the fact that this is the case none of them managed to crack the 170 Mbps mark. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 came in third with a download speed of 162.5.

The Galaxy S21+ 5G came in at a distant fourth place with download speeds of a little over 140 Mbps being obtained. Surprisingly, this phone’s successor the Galaxy S22 Ultra failed to surpass it in terms of 5G download speeds, managing a maximum speed of just 137 Mbps.

These rankings were for smartphones in the US, and in the UK Apple performed even better than might have been the case otherwise. All of the top 5 smartphones in terms of 5G download speed were Apple products, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max clinching the top spot. Maximizing 5G speed is important because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing users to obtain the most functionality from their phones, and Apple is clearly succeeding on that front.
