There are those that say that HDDs are still quite useful because they tend to be more durable than SSDs, but with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that this is an advantage that is rather quickly starting to evaporate as of late. One way to look at this is in terms of endurance per terabyte. SSDs generally have more endurance relative to the amount of storage space that they offer, but there also tends to be a lot more to it than that.
HDDs generally tend to allow you to write more data onto them than SSDs, so this is by no means a contest that has been fully decided with all things having been considered and taken into account. The fact that HDDs use spinning motors makes them susceptible to damage that SSDs can usually avoid relatively easily, so there are clearly a lot of different factors that you should take into account when you are trying to decide between an SSD and an HDD.
One piece of advice that we would like to give you is that you should never rely on a single hard disk for your data storage needs. Instead, keep them on three different drives or databases. Make sure that at least one of these storage locations is cloud based so that you don’t have to worry about your data getting erased if you were to drop your laptop. Things like this can make you lose all kinds of work that you would have wanted to keep safe.
