Over Half of Female Tech Professionals Feel Their Gender Holds Them Back, Survey

Gender disparity has become startlingly common in the world of tech as well as various other institutions and industries. Such phenomena need to be altered because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up preventing women from getting the chance to fulfill their new potential, but at the same time it is important to look at statistics so that one can obtain a balanced enough viewpoint about the various things that matter to them.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that 52% of women said that they felt like their gender prevented them from advancing as much as they wanted to in the world of tech. This comes from a survey conducted by Ipsos in collaboration with the Tech Talent Charter and WeAreTechWomen, and it shows that despite the massive amounts of progress that women are making in tech and the huge innovations that they are responsible for, they are still not getting the kind of equitable environment that they are after.

38% of the women that responded to this survey said that they didn’t have all that many opportunities when it came to promotions and the like. However, 35% also said that they feel like they didn’t have the confidence required to move up in the rankings of their organizations, but another thing to keep in mind is that 33% felt like they did not have adequate role models in senior leadership to learn from.

The lack of role models is definitely something that can reduce the amount of confidence that anyone might have, so it makes sense that these women feel like they can’t get to higher posts in their companies. There is a lot of change that needs to be implemented before these women can be given an equal chance to rise to the very top of the tech food chain. Women have succeeded despite all of this, so one can only imagine the success they’d attain if they finally get a level playing field all in all.
