Adam Mosseri talks about the areas that need to be focused on Instagram in 2022

This whole year, Instagram kept copying the famous short video platform, TikTok. As a result, TikTok gained a lot of new users through the features and platform it provided to the users so they could get connected. As a result, Instagram is also working on similar features so it can counter the growing influence of TikTok.

In a recent video posted by Adam Mosseri, the chief of Instagram explained that the application will focus on some areas in the upcoming year, and as a result, it may seem like the social network is copying more features available on TikTok.

Mosseri summarized that Instagram will work on two key areas, including the videos and reels, as well as the user’s control. He added that Instagram reels will be the main area of work, and all current video formats will be lined with reels.

The growing influence of TikTok has been pressurizing Instagram. As a result, the platform is trying to prevent its users from leaving Instagram by offering them what they need. So far, these efforts have come in favor of Instagram. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Meta, the short video feature of Instagram is engaging more users than any other available feature on Instagram. Since users are now becoming attracted towards such short video content, Instagram's focus should also shift along with the needs of its consumers. Reels have already paved their way onto the main feed, and it feels like the application will keep working so users can get more exposure to this type of content.

Another area that needs focus is the direct message section. According to the head of Instagram, DMs are the main source through which users are connected. Along with DMs, monetization tools and policies will also be the areas of focus in 2022.

Lastly, Mosseri said that another major area that needs to be worked on is the transparency of the application. Instagram has been working to introduce a sequential order to the feed. Users will be able to select a chronological or reverse chronological feed.

Though there are still many areas that can be used by Instagram to keep its spot among users and in the upcoming metaverse, it seems like Instagram will have a lot more new areas to work on.
