Ecommerce Apps See 55 Percent Boost in Consumer Spending in 2020’s Holiday Season

Ecommerce apps have ended up becoming the focal point for a lot of companies that focus on the tech sector because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing these companies to leverage their user bases and earn massive amounts of money in the process.

Facebook is a prime example of a tech company that previously had a very different kind of focus but is now trying to direct a lot of its energies towards growing a nascent ecommerce platform within its social media properties as well.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that ecommerce has ended up having a truly excellent year. The fourth quarter of any given year is going to be essential in determining the kinds of returns that a sector like ecommerce can expect to receive due to the reason that it includes the holiday season during which a lot of customers are going to be spending significant amounts of money on ecommerce and the like.

It turns out that Q4 in 2020 saw a 55% increase in spending among consumers within eCommerce, and app installs reached an all time high as well. In 2021 alone, ecommerce apps have seen a 55% jump in Android devices, whereas with iOS devices the number was slightly lower but still significant at 32%.


This is after a combined increase of 151% in the UK last year, and these numbers seem to indicate that the growth that the industry is currently seeing is most definitely sustainable with all things having been considered and taken into account rather than just being some sort of bubble that could burst at any given moment.

Since Q4 of last year was so profitable, most retailers are going to be eager to take advantage of the holiday season this time around which is why they need to optimize their sites for mobile browsing and the like. Ecommerce has been trending upwards consistently, with increasing booms during holiday seasons followed by dips during the spring.

One thing to note is that sales during these dips have been slower to rise, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that holiday seasons are starting to become increasingly profitable for the companies that are trying to make the most of them.

One can also see the impact of ecommerce apps by taking note of the amount of time that consumers tend to spend on them on average. In fact, US customers alone are projected to spend upwards of 900 million hours on ecommerce apps in the upcoming holiday season, and that indicates that the number could go well past a billion next year.


That’s a 20% increase from that year, and the rate of growth is staying pretty stable as well which should give ecommerce companies and apps a lot of hope for the future as they would know that their investments are not going to turn into something or the other that would not remain profitable in the years to come.

All in all, consumers are going to spend a quarter of a trillion dollars on ecommerce in the fourth quarter of 2021. That is a startlingly high number, and to think that that number can still see enormous amounts of growth just shows how big ecommerce has become in the past year as well as how much it will continue to impact our lives in the coming years and decades.
