Burnout is real and it can have severe effect on your mental and physical health, reveals a survey

Burnout is the extent of overworking yourself that you feel physically and mentally drained and as much as we hate to admit it, it has become quite common than it ever was, especially in the American community.

A survey was hence conducted Skynova among 1000 American workers ranging from entry level employees to senior managers and was conducted from all gender and types.

The first category in the survey showed that who felt the most burnout and the answers were no surprise. The most burnout was felt by Gen Z workers with a solid 67 percent claiming that they always felt tired and exhausted. Millennials followed next with 52 percent feeling burnout.

In terms of positions at a work space, new level workers showed the most percentage of burnout which is obvious because when you start some place new, it takes time for one to adjust to their new schedule and hence the initial few weeks are always exhausting, even though they were working only at 35 hours a week, while the remaining generations category worked up to 40 hours.

In the last year there were five symptoms that were the main cause of burnout in office workers, with work space pressure being the top on the list at 44 percent with loss of motivation, exhaustion, decreased satisfaction and headache following in order.

However, while these were the main symptoms in the past year, there were several other causes overall which made professionals feel burnout, but what are they?

Well, the list starts off with unclear job expectations with a ratio of 39 percent, poor work and life balance at 33 percent, unrealistic workload and expectations from workers at 32 percent, and pay not worth the work for 25 percent of the people were some basic common causes.

Due to the immense workload and the burnout people felt, a lot of users’ mental health and work life was being affected and the survey statistics showed that overall only 65 percent of employees felt satisfied with their jobs and less than 47 percent were feeling mentally well.

This is very alarming considering that more than half the population within work spaces did not feel mentally healthy. Keeping this in mind and caring about all those stressed out from work, the survey also jotted down some tips and tricks people could use to reduce their burnout levels.

Some major points for generations to reduce their burnout and help overcome work load stress included eating healthy and exercising, which is obviously very important. It was followed by taking short breaks during work because continuous working can make people feel tired and unfocused and it was also advised to take a day off completely for yourself every not and then because people deserve it.

Spending time with loved ones and taking less work and responsibilities was also advised.

In 2019, only 1 out of every 20 individuals was reported to feel burnout, however, that number has drastically jumped to 1 out of every 5 within two years and this is very alarming. The current pandemic and the implementation of lockdown forced people to stay indoors which also added to the list of reasons as to why the work stress and burnout has increased.

However, it was also revealed that getting appreciation from your boss or seniors also played a vital role in encouraging people to work hard and more happily at work spaces.

Burnout can get pretty bad and workers should not overwork themselves to a point where they feel physically and mentally drained. One should always keep their health as their first priority and everything else should follow then.
