TikTok Might Be Getting Into VR With Latest Potential Acquisition

There are few pieces of tech that end up generating as much buzz as VR because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing people to enter a completely virtual space and immerse themselves in games and other types of activities in a way that just wouldn’t have been possible before. Facebook has been the most prominent investor into VR with its acquisition of Oculus, but it seems like the social media platform is going to be getting some competition from TikTok which has historically not gone well for the once dominant player.

However, it is important to note that there is nothing concrete to speak of yet. However, some very reliable sources have indicated that TikTok might be looking to acquire VR company Pico, a company that has been making VR headsets that are quite similar to the ones that Facebook’s own Oculus has been producing.

Pico has been implementing a two pronged launch approach, with a gaming focus in China and a more enterprise focused approach in North America and Europe. What this means is that TikTok will be able to use it to enter two industries that are booming with all things having been considered and taken into account. If this acquisition actually ends up happening, it will be the first major acquisition that TikTok has ever ended up making, and it could pave the way for the Chinese social media company to become an even bigger player. TikTok’s rise has been quite phenomenal and has resulted in a shifting of powers in the world of social media, and its entry into the world of VR might do even more to upset the balance and reduce Facebook’s crumbling dominance even further than it has already progressed.
