Snapchat's new study shows how AR/VR has influenced the shopping behavior of consumers

Snapchat is one of the biggest social media platforms where there are over 500 million users from all over the world and with the highest number of users in the US. The app has recently shared the data in a report in collaboration with Foresight Factory that has shown that how the new technology including the virtual reality has influenced the shopping style of many of the consumers around the world. This report has surveyed almost 20,000 consumers globally and more than 2,500 consumers from the US.

When global consumers were asked the question that do they find online shopping restricted especially during the lockdown situation because they are not able to check out the products before purchasing them at the store. Almost 55% Millennials and 51% Gen Z agreed to this situation and overall that percentage becomes about 47%. People want to get out of their houses especially for shopping or at least they want some of the new styles for the experience of their shopping. However, the addition of AR has changed the style of shopping as this technology allows users to virtually try out the clothes that they want to buy and users can even try cosmetics stuff virtually, for instance, they can try the colors of the lipsticks online. This can even grow the ecommerce, as well as the AR technology, has changed the shopping style of many people that about 62% of the people in the US like to buy online with the help of AR technology.

The Snapchat app is also looking forward launching its own AR and other digital tools like users will be able to include the Bitmoji avatars of the famous brands that will help to increase the shopping trend on this application. It looks amazing to see the data that people are more interested in availing discount offers on physical products as a result of their related purchases in the application. Snapchat is also testing a new option through which people will be able to create their own items using the application that they can even buy in the real life. There is no doubt that social media platforms are now influencing the shopping style of the people as many people rely on these platforms for examining and exploration of the products.21% of the people said that they always relate the price on social media platforms and interact with their friends too when they are shopping physically while 25% of the people said that they sometimes compare the price.

The report has shown that almost 3 in 5 Millennials always share their screenshot with their friends or family about the item they are interested to get reviews. 31% of the Snapchat users said that they like to search new items on social media then even discovering online on other platforms, however, even 37% of the users strongly agree to the situation, and about 26% of Gen Z and 28% of the Millennials are strongly agree to this point and overall, 15% of the people agreed strongly. The application has suggested the brands should align their products with these growing trends that will increase the chance of boosting their sales online.
