Apple Is Introducing Subscription Fees in Its Podcasts to Pay Creators On Apple Podcast

The Podcast industry is getting popular day by day and many platforms are introducing their podcast apps and tools for creators to use it as a means to upload their content and listeners to enjoy and learn through those conversations and while many new apps are being introduced for Podcasting, Apple has been an old one this line.

Apple Podcast features more than 2 million free shows and is available for free on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod mini, CarPlay, iTunes on Windows, and other smart speakers and car systems.

But with the increasing popularity of podcasting Apple realized that it was time to step up in their game and therefore the tech giant introduced some new features on the Apple Podcasts. Apple on Tuesday revealed the new features that it is bringing out and the key feature among it will be Podcasts Subscriptions.

This new service by Apple will be available globally and is expected to roll out in May. The new feature will offer exclusive content, early access to new series, and ad-free shows.

While Apple has a monthly subscription package for all its services, it will be different for this new feature as pricing for each subscription will be set by the creator and will be billed monthly by default but creators can also offer annual billing, which subscribers can manage from their Apple ID account settings and fans will be able to subscribe to the podcasts they want to listen to and have chosen through the app. The listeners will also be able to avail free trials and sample episodes that the creators offer before they choose to subscribe to the creator.

Apart from the subscription, the changes are also being made on the Podcasts itself. Apple is introducing a Channel feature in the podcasts to help with the discovery of the content that has been posted and this channel feature will show groups that are curated by the creators. The app also has new pages that feature artwork for each show podcast display, an enhanced Search tab for searching your desired content to listen to, and the ability to save individual episodes for offline playback. Saved Episodes will be available on iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, and macOS 11.3 and are also available on watchOS 7.4 and tvOS 14.5. These software updates will be available next week. The podcast will now offer a smart play button which will automatically start episodic shows on the platform arranged from the latest episode and serialized shows from the beginning of each series.

Apart from this the Apple Podcast Program includes all the tools that are required for to offer premium subscriptions on Apple Podcasts is also being made available in over 170 countries and region for a steal price of 19.99 US dollars annually.
