Amazon, After Much Opposition, Canceled the Plan To Build New Headquarter in NYC

Amazon had been planning to open its new headquarter in New York City. The company had been offered a $3 billion tax break if they come to New York City. This caused much uproar among local leaders, politicians, and activists, who opposed the decision. Considering the response, Amazon decided to cancel its plan of new headquarter.

The company released its statement saying that for the company to grow, it is important that local politicians and state cooperate and support them for long-term. After pondering over the issues, they have come to the conclusion that they will not build a Headquarter in Long City Island, Queens.

Last year in November, Amazon announced that they will open a new campus in Long City Island, Queens. According to a study, this would have created 25000-40000 jobs for the locals. Additional tax revenue of about $27.5 billion would also have been created in the coming 25 years.

Amazon is the biggest employer in the tech industry. In 2018, the company has hired 647,500 employees, including seasonal workers. Other than Walmart, this is the only U.S. Company that have hired more than half a billion employees.
