Instagram Launches New Video Editing App Called Edits

It’s the app that many people have been waiting for months, but we can confirm that Instagram’s latest video editing app, Edits, has launched.

The platform was busy previewing it for a long time, and users couldn’t wait to see what was on offer as it was the social media giant’s version of CapCut. The fact that Instagram now has a replacement for the famous ByteDance platform is really major news because if TikTok does get banned, Meta can benefit big time.

The company shared the news through a blog post, adding how it can be difficult to make videos when you’re down with a busy schedule. With Edits, the whole process is simplified as it’s your go-to all-in-one platform. This dedicated space has great features for creating videos, it continued.

In case you’re wondering what greatness it entails, we’ve jotted down the list of capabilities on offer.

For starters, it features editing through a multi-channel endeavor. Edits give a timeline for several different video streams so edits can be done quicker and in a single space. Next, users benefit from managing different projects simultaneously through the Projects tab.

There’s another cool function for Notes where you can list down ideas for new content and add others to saved reels. Users can similarly look for what’s trending on the Reels front and get audio suggestions to assist in the video creation process.

When recording videos through Edit, users can film clips that go up to 10 minutes in duration, while on Instagram, that’s limited to just three minutes. The app does, however, let you upload clips that are longer.

Users can utilize the app’s green screen effects on Edits that keep objects or people separate, and an exciting animation feature is coming soon that uses AI. Furthermore, users get the chance to upload to different platforms directly through this app and can download all videos for posting elsewhere.

Last but not least, they can opt for royalty-free tunes and captions while getting insights about their posts through analytics.

We think it’s a great package comprising some core offerings. We know Instagram is on the lookout to add better elements for the real editing process so creators get the maximum outcome from their content.

This includes keyframes to edit certain elements on a clip and more AI features that give creators the chance to alter the whole setting of videos using AI. It will similarly add more collaborations so creators can work well with others on posts. Instagram also wants to add exciting creative fonts like voice effects, animations, filters, and more, so the final outcome is perfect.

So, as you can tell, there’s a lot to offer in terms of editing your posts for the app. We must add that not everything would be for free, but with what’s on display, creators wouldn’t mind paying a little extra.

The initial variant for Edits would be available for free, but the app’s chief does note that it could charge for AI-based offerings as they are costly in terms of computing.

The app has not made it clear if users can access the new platform using their credentials from Instagram. But Adam Mosseri did clarify that the goal is to make the majority of offerings free of additional cost.

From the looks of it, this app is certainly here to pack a punch, and we cannot wait to get our hands on it!
