YouTube Surpasses $10B in Ad Revenue for the First Time in Q4 2024

Video streaming giant YouTube just shared its latest earnings report for Q4 of 2024.

The results showed promising figures for global ad revenue which managed to deliver a 13.8% rise than the previous report. The revenue went above the $10 billion mark for the first time ever.

The mega ad sales delivered by YouTube was $10.4 billion, which went above and beyond the WSJ’s consensus estimates. This is just one aspect of the company, not to mention the great sums of money it makes through subscriptions to YouTube TV and YouTube Premium.

Last year in Fall, Alphabet mentioned how the total revenue for YouTube hit $50B for the year that ended in September 2024. As a whole, Alphabet recorded Q4 revenue of $96B with net income of $26B.

The sudden rise in the app’s advertising revenue came through via the recent US Elections. Both political parties opted to double their budgets when compared to the figures seen for the 2020 elections. To be more specific, the app saw more than 45M viewers tune in on election day to see the outcome through the YouTube app.

Thanks to the continuous growth in both videos and search, we’ve seen Google making heavy investments in AI to keep up to pace with different companies like Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI. In the previous month, American tech giants were rattled by plenty of results touted by Chinese AI start-ups such as DeepSeek. This saw it create an LLM that was better than most other systems at a fraction of the cost.

Google’s CEO did share how he sees the company investing in major deals that go up to $75B this year for AI. This is way more than what analysts predicted for the year from WSJ. The search engine giant said this quarter was very strong thanks to Google’s leadership stance in AI through business. They are working on building greater computing and driving efficiencies.

When asked about DeepSeek through a phone call, Sundar Pichai applauded the startup for having a fabulous team that did some great work. However, that did not stop him from praising Google’s models which he says are some of the most efficient around the globe.
