Video streaming giant YouTube has begun getting rid of its Guest profile from television apps. The company has begun this move starting with Apple TV and Roku where the option can no longer be found.
The platform for TV has a similar interface design and features set through different platforms. However, the search engine giant does tend to roll out changes on a few versions before others. Therefore, the latest on this front seems to be the Guest profile.
Inside the television version of the YouTube app, users will witness a new profile switcher. This gives rise to simple access to various channel pages. At the same time, it’s another means for alternate accounts and YouTube Kids after getting rid of the dedicated application. You can also find the Guest profile but the app is yet to get rid of the option for now.
The missing Guest profile change seems to have been launched to users nearly two weeks back. It’s also the case for Fire TV devices too. Instead, the page now puts various profiles on display and the chance to include Add Account or make the switch to YouTube Kids.
There is a button for ‘Use Signed Out’ that pops up below, giving viewers the chance to use this app while not being signed inside accounts. The change doesn’t appear to impact the Android TV app or Google TV.
In terms of function, there are similarly no changes to make a switch for any ‘use signed out’ option. Instead, when you use this, users get the chance to switch to guest mode. It will continue to retain details inside accounts when you click on Sign In. It’s not exactly a feature removal for Google but you can consider it to be a visual change.
Google did share some reasoning for this change but not everything is clear right now. It might be that Google is pushing forward and making way for viewers to use such accounts and watch history. Remember, two years back, we saw the app alter the platform to put an end to recommendations. This is when users switch off watch history, despite still being signed in. The same is the case when you use the app while being signed out on guest profiles.
