TikTok Publishes New Measures Taken to Ensure American Users’ Data Remains Separate

We all know about the growing concerns related to TikTok and its links with the Chinese government. The company published another overview of the different steps it took to make sure American users’ data remained separate.

This includes discussions about how users’ data remains separate from CCP influence. While the efforts are massive, we cannot forget how the app’s status in America hangs in limbo. TikTok has never been clear about its links.

The app continues to enter into new negotiations with both the Trump Administration and the government of China. It seeks to stay in the US and keep contact with the massive 170M American users.

President Trump shared how TikTok was given 75 days to negotiate a new sell-off deal through the help of executive orders. However, both the Google and Apple App stores didn’t support the platform in the app stores out of fear of being penalized.

However, since Oracle supports TikTok’s operations under Trump’s instructions, this means TikTok still will work in America but it cannot add new people. The only other condition that can arise is if the app users resort to workarounds. Technically, the platform is banned in the US which is why it’s convincing American users and American senators that it’s very safe.

The latest statement is in reply to speculations about TikTok going one step further to keep users in America safe. The app says the goal right now is making sure the right tech safeguards are in place to address issues related to national security concerns. It wants to be very transparent along the way.

Protected American user data will be stored inside the Oracle Cloud featuring safe gateways to which only USDS personnel get access. It also spoke about transparency centers where trusted third-party organizations like Oracle could inspect manually everything going on including the app’s source codes and algorithms. So far, no issues have been found with the platform.

So does this mean the platform is safe? Well, all of the measures better both safety as well as transparency. Meanwhile, all of the app’s systems are locked down to externals so there is no risk for CCP operatives taking American users’ data.

That might be true but as mentioned in 2023, the CEO of TikTok admitted under oath that some staff members in China could have access to American users’ information.
