Google’s AI Overviews Now Handle Every Complex Query – Here’s How It’s Changing Search Forever

According to a report by BrightEdge on current AI search trends, AI Overviews is now being present in 100% complex search queries which suggests that there is a growing confidence in AI for search. Now AI Overviews is capable of providing complex and multi-turn answers instead of simple snippets. This shows that Google is getting confident in AI’s ability to deliver accurate and detailed information and this is going to grow more. BrightEdge reports that Google AI Overviews feature is getting more prominent in search results and more keyword phrases and triggering AI Overviews now. 25% of the search queries with 8 or more keywords show AI Overviews and even though AI Overviews are still appearing for short keywords, the rate is much slower than longer keywords.

Authoritative brands are getting more growth because of AI Overviews, with 72% of healthcare questions triggering AI Overviews as compared to 54% in early January. For B2B technology queries, 15%-22% of AI Overviews answers come from tech companies like IBM, Amazon and Microsoft. This shows that big brands are currently dominating specific industries.

The report by BrightEdge also showed that there are certain patterns thay AI Overviews follow that makes Google feel that certain content is more relevant. The pattern most of the content featured on AI Overviews follow is: the content provides step-by-step information with structured formats, the content has real time relevance with timely and accurate answers, and the content provides general guidance and not overly specific details.
For educational search queries, AI Overviews prefer precise answers with visual presentation. Google also hides the details if they are not relevant to the main query if needed which can be linked to Google’s information gain patent which focuses on predicting additional information users may want after receiving their initial answer.

BrightEdge also noticed a change in YouTube citations in AI Overviews results, with technical tutorials increasing by 40% while health-related videos declining by 31%. High-volume search queries which triggered YouTube content have also decreased by 18.7% which shows that AI Overviews shift according to user needs.
