57% of Gen Z Want to Become Influencers, Far More Than Any Other Group

The ever shifting job market presents opportunities that might have been considered pipe dreams not too long ago. In the middle of the 20th century, teenagers were obsessed with the idea of becoming rock stars even though this appeared to be something that was less likely than becoming a white collar professional. In spite of the fact that this is the case, the passion for the younger generation to enter new fields continues unabated, although Gen Z have a very different type of career trajectory in mind.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that 57% of Gen Z said that their primary career goal is to become some kind of an influencer. This is based on the Morning Consult’s recent report which shed some light on the state of career choices being made by people in the modern era. On average, 41% of US adults said that they would like to become influencers, but for Gen Z a massive 16 point differential can be noted.

There is also an increasing level of trust in influencers among both Millennials as well as Gen Z. 51% said that they trusted influencers back in 2019, but by 2023 this proportion has swelled to 41% with all things having been considered and taken into account.

53% of Gen Z also stated that they look at influencing as a respectable and viable career choice. 30% even went on to admit that they would be willing to put their own money down because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up serving as an investment that will boost their career.

With 42% of people going to TikTok to find recommendations for products that they want to buy and 40% looking at YouTube, influencing has genuinely turned into a viable way to make money. This could lead to an influx of new creators who might end up saturating the market and creating a paradigm shift that would be rather difficult to try to predict.
