New WhatsApp Update Increases Group Call Limit to 15

Group calls have been an important aspect of WhatsApp’s functionality as of late because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing people to interact with more users at once. The maximum number of users that can be added to a call has always been 32, but in spite of the fact that this is the case, you could only initiate a call with seven people at most.

The rest of the participants had to be added one by one after the call had already begun. This limitation made the group call feature less useful than might have been the case otherwise. With all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that WhatsApp has more than doubled it in a recent update.

You can still call 32 people at most, but when you are kicking the call off, you can add up to fifteen people all at once, as spotted by WBI. This will serve to improve the group call feature’s functionality with all things having been considered and taken into account.

One thing that bears mentioning is that this is currently only available for beta testers. However, it is likely that WhatsApp will give the feature a wider rollout in an upcoming update. This might be a game changer for WhatsApp calls, since the 7 user limit has been criticized for inhibiting the full usage of the group call setting.

There is a way to work around the limitation, namely by sending a link to the group call that users can click on. That can save you the trouble of having to add everyone manually, but with the increase to 15, you might not have to do that anymore unless you are calling an especially large group.

It will be interesting to see what other call based updates WhatsApp is bringing to the table, since the Meta owned messaging service has been doubling down on calls and groups for quite some time now. Most users are hoping to be able to start calls with the full 32 user limit.
