This New Malware Gives Hackers Remote Control Over Devices

Malicious actors have constantly been upgrading their techniques because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making their incursions more successful. A new malware that has just been spotted called “Hook” can give hackers the ability to obtain remote control over your devices with all things having been considered and taken into account.

They use Virtual Network Computing to achieve this goal, and with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that this isn’t the first form of malware that this group has created. This same hacker group is also responsible for Ermac which acts as a banking Trojan that can be purchased for around $5,000 per month.


Analysts who are working at ThreatFabric have managed to uncover a wide range of similarities between Hook and Ermac. The malicious actors behind Hook claim that the code for Hook was written from scratch, but in spite of the fact that this is the case the researchers who studied the malware found this to be unlikely.

If a hacker manages to infect one of your devices with hook, they will be able to exert more control over the device than might have been the case otherwise. This includes being able to remotely manage the device, which is something that can really put user safety and security at risk in a huge way.

Malicious actors can use hook to perform monetary transactions among a wide range of other activities. They can remotely control the malware in a way that is hard to predict, and that just goes to show that there really is no end to malware capabilities if it comes from the right source.

This malware can be purchased through the dark web, making it the latest in a long line of malware as a service incidents. Fraud scoring engines can have a hard time detecting the malware, which makes its propensity for damage all the more likely. We will have to wait and see if anyone is able to neutralize this malware fast enough.
