Statistics reveal TikTok is beating YouTube’s dominance in the Digital Video Market

A survey conducted by eMarketer, reveals that TikTok is competing with YouTube by grabbing more than 2/3rd of the U.S. population market share, particularly among Gen Z viewers.

Interestingly, TikTok has less than 1 billion active users compared to YouTube which boasts 2 billion users in 2022. TikTok is now a dominating social networking platform for videos and status uploading in the year 2022 and is providing a huge area for content creators all over the globe as it is available in more than forty different languages. Strikingly, TikTok is known to occupy the biggest share in the online market, grabbing the focus and time of teenagers and consumers of generation Z mostly. For seventeen years, YouTube was the top dog in the digital video market. Last year approximately two-thirds of the United States’ population frequently checked videos on YouTube on a monthly basis. Comparatively, 225.8 million individuals viewed videos on YouTube rather than using the Facebook app. All things aside, YouTube’s user base is far more than the six years old social networking app, TikTok. The analysts predict 82.7 percent of Generation Z consumers visit YouTube. On the other hand, 60.7% of the population in the U.S. goes on TikTok because the attention span of an average teenager is reducing. Social media users increased 10 percent last year as there were more Youtube audiences than TV audiences (245.7 million).

In addition, if we drill down into the data collected from different generation groups, TikTok seems to beat YouTube's dominance as ever. Teenagers in the U.S. are more indulged in TikTok content rather than YouTube. Forecasters say Youtube users increase by 1.5 percent points and TikTok viewers will rise more than thirteen points (from 51.7 percent) which is a big difference. Moreover, Millennials watch 81.6% of YouTube videos and 41.7% of TikTok videos. By the year 2025, there will be 24.2 million American TikTok users between the ages of 18 to 24 years. Surprisingly, the data shows YouTube adoption has (kind of) peaked now. The data shows the number of people opting for TikTok as their favorite app has increased by 71 percent in the past three months.

Along with that, TikTok was the frequently downloaded app demographically and gained huge ads revenue. TikTok's ad viewership also continues to expand at an eye-watering pace.
