Here Are the Most Mind Bending Illusions of 2021

Optical illusions are a really popular subject because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up subverting what you might have expected when you looked at a particular image. Such illusions are more than just entertaining, though. They also provide a window into the inner workings of the human mind and how it processes the information that it receives on a day to day basis.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this data is often compiled by the Neural Correlate Society. This society has now revealed the winners of last year’s context wherein it attempted to find the best optical illusions that people ended up seeing online in the year 2021, and many of these illusions are truly confusing to look at because of how they manipulate perspective and other aspects of perception.

The winner of this contest turned out to be the Phantom Queen (featured below in an embedded video). The way that this illusion works is that it uses a chessboard that is reflected in a mirror placed on an opposing wall. The white queen seen in this mirror appears to move of its own accord due to tricks of the light, and it can be difficult to ascertain where this movement is actually coming from in the first place as well as whether or not it is moving at all.

However, there are a lot of other optical illusions that people are claiming surpass the Phantom Queen. For one thing, this is just an optical illusion, whereas some other illusions manage to trick users into feeling false tactile input as well with the Slime Hand illusion in particular standing out in this regard. Whatever the case may be, suffice it to say that optical illusions will continue to reveal how people perceive the world in the future.
