This Camera is the Size of a Salt Grain, and It’s Better Than Most Larger Cameras

Everything is becoming smaller these days, and while people frequently say that tech is reaching a hard limit with regards to miniaturization, it seems that there are still a lot of breakthroughs that can be made. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the latest breakthrough has to do with camera technology.

A team of scientists working at Princeton have created a camera that is as small as a grain of salt. It’s not the first micro camera, but it’s far better than the ones that have been seen previously because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up taking pictures at full resolution and with natural colors.

In fact, the pictures that this camera can take are better than some of the pictures that full sized cameras are currently capable of capturing with all things having been considered and taken into account. The new structure of this camera is called a metasurface, and it uses machine learning to process the images which is why they end up appearing so crystal clear.

Previously, cameras that were so small could only take good quality pictures in lab settings. This camera, however, is capable of taking phenomenal pictures in the real world, and it represents a true step forward in the world of tech and proves that there is still a lot more technological innovation that people could start looking into. The camera also has numerous medical applications, and it might just revolutionize the field of imaging in general in a really big way.

While the camera still has a long way to go before it can get into mass production, it’s still a notable achievement because of how effectively it has been designed.
