Video Streaming Wars Continue As Streaming Platforms See Steady Growth

While 2020 was a pretty bad year for most industries, it turned out to be a bit of a dream come true for the vast majority of streaming apps that are currently out there. The pandemic caused a lockdown and people needed something to do during that lockdown so a lot of them obviously ended up turning to streaming apps. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the growth of streaming apps has continued well into 2021, with the top 25 apps receiving over 72 million downloads in the last quarter alone, reports Apptopia.

The three most popular streaming apps are Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime, all of which have managed to do quite a bit to steady themselves resulting in a bit of a war of attrition between the juggernaut backed newbies and the now comfortably placed Netflix. However, if you were to look at the app that has seen the most growth, it’s actually HBO Max which is interesting when you consider just how expensive the app is right now.

Disney+ has also proven to be enormously profitable, receiving $700 million in revenue from the US alone. This just goes to show how solid of a business streaming is right now, and the fact that it gives you so many opportunities with so many different options is something that is going to make a lot of people take it seriously. The 29% year on year increase the streaming apps have seen this past year is pretty astounding and it indicates that the growth that these apps saw in 2020 is holding steady in 2021 which might just be a sign that it will continue to increase as time goes by in the future. Consistent growth is just what the industry needs to breed even more competition.
