TikTok’s Parent Company is Entering the Ecommerce Game

Ecommerce has been a really big deal for a few years now, with companies like Facebook trying to get in on the action both through its own platform and even more so through its subsidiary Instagram. The current giants in the world of ecommerce are Alibaba and Amazon, and they have pretty much held a duopoly over this industry although Facebook’s forays have definitely managed to shake things up in a way that is surprising given how little people initially expected from the platform in this regard.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, is going to be entering the ecommerce industry as well. The social media aspect of the company is definitely going to play a major role here because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making it so that they can communicate with their numerous users and make their ecommerce platform successful by leveraging their user base and connecting sellers to a higher number of buyers than might have otherwise been possible for them to look into.

The truly interesting aspect of this is that the ecommerce platform might be integrated directly into TikTok, and ByteDance appears to be hiring people all around the world for ecommerce positions. It will be interesting to see how this plays out because TikTok has seen absolutely massive success which might result in a lot of success in other areas as well including ecommerce. ByteDance intends to make this an international shopping platform as well, and we will just have to wait and see how things pan out. The level of investment that ByteDance can bring to the table is quite incredible so it will be tough for this project to fail if they play their cards right.
