Data shows increased in spending on Photos and Video applications among consumers, Americans alone spent more than $457 million during the 2nd quarter of 2021

People have been using photos, video, and their editing applications for many years but this trend has especially enlarged during the pandemic situation. For instance, when users were spending more time on social media platforms and they want to upload their photos and videos. According to the data, the adoption of these categories of applications was uplifted during the start of 2020, but the growth rate of such applications continued to be stronger during the Q1 and Q2 of 2021. Sensor Tower has recently published a report that shows the people of America have spent up to 457 Million Dollars on the top hundred categories of these applications just in the 2nd quarter of this year. However, the spending of users in the same quarter of last year was almost 342 Million Dollars.

If we talk about the percentage data, this number has increased up to 34% YoY in Q2 of 2021. During the prior quarters, mostly iOS users spent on these classes of apps, as most of the income was produced by Apple users as App Store is responsible for up to 83% of customers’ expenditure on photos, videos, and their subclasses of application in the 2Q21. However, the data shows some astonishing facts that Android users have surpassed the spending on these applications as Google Play is accounted for 126% YoY from 35 Million Dollars during the prior quarter to 78 Million Dollars in this quarter. The revenue per download of YouTube was increasing consistently during the last eighteen months but recently Twitch has crossed the RPD of YouTube during the second quarter. The revenue of Amazon has also increased up to 6.20 Dollars/download; however, the RPD of YouTube in the month of June is just 5.60 Dollars/download.

The data shows that Twitch saw an increasing number of users during the lockdown situations when the trend of video stream was increased up to the great extent in the US. This trend continued to grow during the first 2 quarters of 2021. The report also highlighted the increasing downloads of TikTok over other applications as this app has seen downloads up to twofold during the first half of this year. There is no doubt that people love to use TikTok for uploading their videos and even they like to use filters for editing their videos. The popularity of this application has increased a lot during the last few years. Especially, when the app introduced certain tools for the editing of videos and filters, it gained much fame among the users of the US. Despite the ban in the US that could not impact the growth of this application.

According to the report, TikTok has secured its 1st position on the US Apps Store as social snaps and video application since the first half of 2019, even though the competition of this app was with such popular photos and videos apps in the world such as Instagram, Snapchat, etc. During the first 2 quarters of this year, TikTok has seen the overall downloads from both App Store and Google Play up to 34.6 Million that is about twice than other top applications just like Snapchat, Triller, and Likes. Snapchat saw a total install of 14.2 Million during the first half of this year, as this app is most popular among youngsters. However, the total downloads of the leading app Instagram were 17.7 Million during the same half of 2021.
