WhatsApp to Grant Group Members the Access to Control Disappearing Messages in Group Chats

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used online messaging application with millions of users from around the globe. This strong strength of users makes the company realize how dependent many people are on their messaging service and in return makes them work hard to improve the quality of app and its feature to provide a better experience to their audience as well as attract new users as well.

Last Year in November, WhatsApp introduced feature which allowed users to send disappearing messages. The disappearing messages on groups or personal chats when sent and read by the user will soon disappear automatically making it unavailable to read after that, but now WhatsApp is planning to bring about changes in it as well.

There is a news circulating around that WhatsApp will be adding support group members to have control over disappearing messages. Disappearing messages while currently are available in group chats but it is restricted to the admins only but according to news from WABetaInfo, things are changing now as WhatsApp will be introducing a testing for support for group members to disable/enable disappearing messages in the latest beta on Android version 2.21.8.7. This means that while participants did not have any control over the disappearing messages settings in group chats, this new feature will grant them control and access.

But it is not like this setting will be open by default and any random participant can change it according to their likings. The control to grant access to the disappearing messages will be in control of the admin. This new option will let admins decide whether they want to change the settings for disappearing messages to “all participants” or “only admins.” The all participant’s settings mean that all users in the group chat will be able to enable and disable the disappearing messages while only admins will restrict this facility to the admin. This feature will be available under the “Edit group info” feature. There’s no separate option for only disappearing messages. However even though all these settings decision lies in the end of the group admin on what by default will they choose but it’s good to know that group participants will also have a control over what goes around in the group settings.

Other changes in settings will also be observed in group settings like allowing participants to change group’s subject, icon and description while previously it could be done by the admins of the group only. Apart from this WhatsApp will also be testing a 24-hour limit for disappearing messages while currently it is on 7 days.

WhatsApp has announced that this feature will be rolling out for all beta users and will soon be hitting your screens but as to when it will be officially released it is not known as of yet.
