TikTok Emphasizes Accessibility With New Content Controls

Whenever someone or the other ends up thinking about something like accessibility, they would think about those with physical or mental disabilities that are most commonly associated with these types of things. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that there are certain disabilities that don’t really get taken into account, and this can impact those suffering from these disabilities in a really big way, and one example of such a disability is epilepsy which really needs to be taken a lot more seriously than it currently is by various tech companies and social media platforms.

TikTok is apparently trying to change this with some of the new content controls that it has ended up rolling out. Now users are going to be able to remove videos that contain content that might just end up triggering their epilepsy in some way, shape or form. This is a great step that TikTok is taking, one that would most definitely ensure that various users would get the chance to think about how they can move forward without worrying about their condition getting triggered due to content that exacerbates it.

It is very important that tech companies take the needs of all of the different kinds of users they have into account. Those that are photosensitive or suffer from epilepsy can often endure terrible symptoms if they are exposed to flashing lights, and since TikTok is known for being a rather frenetic social media and video sharing platform where a lot of flashing lights can be found, epilepsy suffers most definitely needed the company to take a step like this. Other tech companies are going to want to incorporate such content controls as well lest they stop being as competitive as they need to be to succeed in the market.
