Meet Squad: A new video-sharing partner of Twitter

The Squad app is another video-meeting platform- just like Zoom. It was created to bring people closer and to let others speak out on video-calls which they are unable to talk about in actual meetups. This free app offering you unlimited texts, video, and of course screen sharing was previously only available to iPod, iPad, and iPhone users. However, it is now available for Android users as well. The app was launched back in 2019. To get full advantage of the app: you first need to download it either from Google Play Store or from iTunes. The next steps are as following: allow the app to send you notifications, have access to your camera, microphone, and contacts and that’s it.

On 11th December, Twitter announced that it has bought the app: ‘Squad’ to bring something new and exciting to ‘Twitter.’ However, the bad news is that Twitter expected Squad to shut down its live video streaming service; Persicope till 12th December. A spokesman working at Twitter informed media outlets that the users were before time notified about its permanent closure and shift to Twitter. According to the reports: the co-founders of the video-meeting app such as CEO Esther Crawford, CTO Ethan Sutin, and all other staff members will be joining the Twitter team. Twitter was hesitant to share further information regarding its deal with Squad.

Ilya Brown; who is the VP of product at Twitter, said in a Tweet to Twitter that the Squad app brings a deep awareness of how people like to interact on video and audio meetings. The collaboration with Squad will indeed help Twitter gain followers by bringing new, exciting, and unique ways of interacting through audio and video calls on the app. It is yet to be revealed that what did the app charged Twitter for being a part of it.

Twitter has been struggling to provide something new to the app just like stories feature like Instagram or something to attract more users. The squad will be something different and will hopefully help Twitter in bringing more exciting updates to the platform. Since Twitter has come into being; it has always tried to facilitate its customers through various services, options, and much more.

In addition to making the platform an app to connect loved ones through video and audio calls, Twitter has rolled out a new feature; of sharing tweets on Snapchat stories. The company is currently working to introduce this update on Instagram too. This will simply bring more users to the app as Twitter will become more than just a tweeting and trending tweet app: it will allow users to interact through video and audio calls and also by sharing Tweets on Snapchat stories. Adding new elements will be a huge success for the platform.
