Instagram Brings Back Recents Tab in US After Election

Social media platforms were very wary of any kind of negative impact that they could potentially end up having on the US election during the lead up to election day because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making it very difficult for said platforms to maintain any sense of legitimacy in the future since Facebook was already implicated in potential manipulation of the election in 2016.

Hence, many platforms took steps to reduce the amount of misinformation that could end up being disseminated by their users, and Instagram decided to remove the recent tab that would show users hashtags that had recently been created. These hashtags could be a powerful tool for anyone that wanted to attempt to spread of misinformation and the like, so Instagram’s decision to temporarily remove it was met with quite a positive response.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Instagram is now going to be bringing the tab back. It is an essential feature for many users and some had started criticizing the platform for going overboard by not bringing it back even though the election had been over for weeks.

The commotion following the election in which Donald Trump attempted to undermine the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s win might have contributed to Instagram deciding to delay the return of this tab. The political situation was quite delicate here, and Instagram did not want to cause any further problems. The fact that the tab is back could be a sign that things are going back to normal in some way, shape or form which would be a very welcome development for most people that are probably quite exhausted by the constant stress that has come from recent political machinations.
