The first-ever person to hit the mark of 100 million followers on TikTok is Charli D’Amelio

TikTok is a famous and widely used short-form video-sharing app, that unfortunately goes through a lot of criticism despite all its popularity. The Chinese app is not only banned in India because of political tensions, but it is also considered a national security threat for the American users because it has been accused of intrusive collection of users’ data. Donald Trump’s administration dragged TikTok’s parent company ByteDance through a lot of mud, and even now, the fate of the app in America is uncertain.

Despite what the app goes through, there is no denying that its usage increased dramatically through all these years, and especially through this year when the world was hit by a pandemic. The app’s popularity increased exponentially during this time, and surprisingly, despite so many tensions in the US, the person who has managed to reach the mark of 100 million followers on the platform is none other than an American creator! Her name is Charli D’Amelio and she is from Connecticut.

Charli is famous for her dance videos that she makes on TikTok, and within a year, she has managed to attract so many followers. The second-most-followed TikToker is Addison Rae, whose total following is 69.7 million. And the third-most-followed TikToker is Zack King with 52.9 million followers. Even celebrities have not yet managed to touch the mark of 100 million, but Charli D’Amelio not only managed it, she along with her family are now in talks of a reality TV series too. Her charismatic online presence attracted advertisers also and she became a part of a high-profile ad campaign for the 2020 Super Bowl. So, while the app faced lawsuits, ultimatums, deadlines, and ban threats from the US government, creators like Charli D’Amelio kept using the app to earn 100 million fans and surely a lot of money through their popularity.

YouTube creators are always targeting TikTok creators by saying that their content does not require as much hard work as many YouTube creators have to put. One famous creator, PewDiePie launched his channel on YouTube in 2010, and it took him around 9 years to gain 100 million followers. On the other hand, Charli D’Amelio makes funny dance videos on TikTok, without having to use a lot of her brain to create some unique content, and yet she manages to get 100 million followers within a year.

So yes, now the claim of YouTubers kind of makes sense. It seems to be fairly easy to get millions of followers on TikTok, but still, hats off to Charli D’Amelio for reaching a milestone even on TikTok that no one else has ever touched before! Not even TikTok’s official account has this many followers!
