Apple’s latest iOS and iPadOS 14.2 software is bringing a lot of interesting features and optimized battery charging options for AirPods

Apple has recently released its iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 for its iPhone and iPad devices. It has come up with some much-needed improvements and some bug fixes too.

Some of the latest features that have been added or improved in the iOS 14.2 from the iOS 14 versions include the following:

More than 100 new emojis have been added which include various new animals, food objects, more gender-inclusive face emojis, household objects, musical instruments, and a lot more.

Eight new wallpapers in light and dark mode versions have been added.

Improved Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors in the Magnifier app. This is one of the key features in the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, and it helps in detecting people who are nearby and also report their distance from the user with the help of the LiDAR sensor technology.

Optimized Battery Charging options come as default now for AirPods if you update your software from iOS 14 to iOS 14.2. This feature can be turned off if the user wants. It basically helps to slow the battery aging by reducing the time that AirPods spend in fully charged mode.

Improved support for iPhone 12 Leather Sleeve with MagSafe wireless charger.

AirPlay controls have been improved to let you stream entertainment throughout your home space.

An Intercom support feature has been added through HomePod and HomePod mini using your iPhone, iPad, AirPods Apple Watch, and CarPlay devices. It can help to connect all the devices in a home through this system, creating an Intercom effect.

HomePod support can now be connected to Apple TV 4K for a stereo effect, surround system, and Dolby Atmos audio system.

New and improved options to let the users learn about statistics related to Exposure Notifications without revealing their identities, and to let them participate in polls and informative tools provided by different Public Health Authorities.

Apart from these features, several bug fixes have also been added in this latest iOS update. These fixes address issues with apps that can be out of order on the Home screen dock, improving the Camera viewfinder, and fixing the issue of it appearing black when it was launched previously, issues with the Lock Screen that could miss touches, Reminders, Photo Widgets, etc. All these and more issues have been addressed quite decently and the bugs have been fixed.

Apart from these updates, Apple has also announced some plans to enable 5G in dual SIM mode for the entire iPhone 12 series in the following weeks before 2020 ends. This may be an upgrade to iOS 14.2 or another update in the iOS software. It is not clear as yet.

More information may come in the upcoming Apple event where the company may announce its first Mac computers.
