Microsoft Criticizes Apple’s New App Store Guidelines

Apple recently revised its app store guidelines, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that both Microsoft as well as Google were releasing major gaming platforms that would serve as centralized locations for the various games that you might be wanting to play. Apple’s app store rules were quite strict and did not allow these kinds of gaming platforms to be available. This would have been a problem since it would have made iOS devices a lot less enjoyable for people since they would be forced to miss out on a lot of games that they might want to play on a regular basis. Hence, in order to address the fact that both Google and Microsoft stated they wouldn’t have their apps on the platform, Apple changed the rules and made them a bit more relaxed.

With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that the new guidelines are still not agreeable for the tech giants. Microsoft has criticized the new guidelines for treating each individual game on the platform as if they were separate apps. According to Microsoft this would greatly compromise the user experience because of the fact that people would have to download a hundred apps in order to have as many games as they wish.

This is one of the newer and more interesting tech battles that are currently underway. This is because of the fact that all of the participants in the current situation are Big 5 tech companies, and it will be interesting to see who ends up being able to exert more influence and get what they wanted. This also shows that the future of gaming is quite different from what it has historically been, and big tech companies are starting to play a role in where the gaming industry might just end up going.
