TikTok Announces First Disbursement from Newly Minted “Creator’s Fund”

TikTok rapidly managed to achieve a lot of success in the social media market, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that it filled the void that had been left by Vine which Instagram tried to fill but failed due to its numerous other concerns. With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that Vine never really paid any of its creators, and TikTok as its successor was in danger of facing a similar issue because of the fact that monetization has historically been difficult for these kinds of platforms.

However, TikTok wants to attract as many big name creators as possible, and as a result of the fact that this is the case the social media platform created a $200 million dollar “Creator’s Fund” from which it would disburse payments to creators based on monetization. It should be noted that this fund is only going to pay the most popular creators on the platform with others still having to rely on outside endorsements. Some are criticizing this fact saying that TikTok should focus on smaller payments to a wider range of creators but others are saying that this is at the very least a step in the right direction, one that would entice more creators into focusing on the platform which would be great for everyone involved.

Some truly big names are being given a payday through this fund, including people like David Dobrik and Ross Smith both of whom have substantial followings on YouTube. However, some of the creators getting paid are pure TikTok stars such as Dr. Fayez who managed to amass a following of 500,000 on the platform.

There is no information currently available with regards to how common such payments would be, but their frequency would have to be high to truly entice more creators into joining.
