Tim Cook Reveals Apple News Has Now Hit A Milestone Of 125 Million Monthly Active Users

  • Apple CEO, Tim Cook, during an earnings call for Q2 2020 revealed that Apple News has now hit a milestone of 125 million monthly active users.
  • Apple’s service revenue increased by $1.9 billion during the quarter since the second quarter of 2019.
  • The company introduced the ‘Apple News+’ last year and Apple has not clarified how many of these monthly active users are paid subscribers of Apple News+.

Apple News’ active users hit an all-time high during the coronavirus crisis as the company’s news platform has now reached 125 million monthly active users making an increase of about 25 million users since the beginning of this year. The tech giant reported over 100 million users for Apple News during its earnings call for Q1 2020.

Tim Cook, Apple CEO shared the news on Thursday during the earnings call for the second fiscal quarter of this year. Tim Cook said that Apple News which was first released in 2015, provides the latest coronavirus news from authentic sources and the monthly active user base of Apple News has now increased to 125 million.

From the above numbers, we can conclude that the increased number of users are using Apple’s news platform to receive authentic and reliable news related to the coronavirus updates.

Tim Cook revealed the number after sharing Apple’s performance for the quarter. The company’s product revenue declined year-over-year, but the services revenue increased. In the case of Services revenue, the company earned $13.35 during the quarter. Apple’s services revenue increased by approximately $1.9 billion compared to last year’s performance as the company earned Services revenue of about $11.45 billion during the second quarter of the year 2019.

Last year, the company released a paid version of Apple News. The paid version is called ‘Apple News+’ and provides users with access to paywalled magazines and news sites. Paywalled websites restrict people without a paid subscription to access the content, and Apple News+ offers access for only $9.99 per month to its subscribers.

Apple did not specify how many of these 125 million monthly active users are using the paid subscriptions of Apple News+. But still, it is worth noting how Apple News is getting increasingly popular among the users during the pandemic crisis. It seems that Apple News is considered a reliable news platform among users from various countries where the service is available.
